Are Gas Prices the New GOP Attack on Obama?

nationaljournal.com -- As unemployment continues to tick downward, Republicans are searching for messages other than joblessness with which to bludgeon President Obama. On Sunday, GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich hinted at such a new line of attack: Gas prices.

In appearances on both NBC’s Meet the Press and CBS’s Face the Nation, Gingrich cited pain at the pump to make the case against Obama – even if the unemployment rate, which dipped to 8.3 percent in January, continues to drop.

Asked how he would campaign against the incumbent in an improving economy, Gingrich replied: “If it is combined with the highest-priced gasoline in American history because of his anti-American energy policies, he's still going to have a challenge.” He went on to attack an upcoming Environmental Protection Agency rule

the problem w/ a two party system is that anything done to or by one party can and will be used against them the next election season. What's needed is a big political reform (more parties, direct election, etc.) and a reform of the entire entitlement system (i.e. PACs can't have all the money they want, Pig Oil cannot take in lots of double subsidies and get tax breaks, etc.)

Three(3) -OUT DATED- eastern Pennsylvania refineries are closing due to the fact that the U.S. is EXPORTING GASOLINE, there is TOO MUCH GASOLINE in AMERICA...

Instead of building a Keystone Pipeline to TEXAS, all CANADA has to do is PURCHASE these THREE(3) eastern Pennsylvania refineries ... PROBLEM SOLVED... REPUBLICANS would lose their VOICE if a law were passed to prohibit EXPORT of KEYSTONE PIPELINE Products...

-- Moment of Clarity -- ...

No one wants a OIL PIPELINE built on CLEAN WATER AQUAFIERS... NEVER trust a OIL COMPANY EXECUTIVE to take care of your CLEAN WATER... FRACKING, PIPELINE or otherwise... there are no OIL COMPANY EXECUTIVEs living in your WATER DISTRICT... FLAMMABLE WATER is something a BRITA or PUR water filter can NOT fix...

-- Moment of Clarity --

...Price of OIL is DOWN, U.S. is Exporting Refined Gasoline to OTHER CONTRIES...

-- Moment of Clarity -- ...

Republican Oil Company Owners are Manipulating Gas Prices... in their bid to retake the White House in November...

-- Moment of Clarity -- ...

TB: ban was not a ban but a moratorium which has expired and it only was relating to NEW deep water wells - all those already drilled were totally unaffected.

Both parties are out for power and that's their objective. Neither of them care about the average person.

Are Gas Prices the New GOP Attack on Obama? ‘As unemployment continues to tick downward’ and there is very little improvement in the economy, sure why not attack Barry with Gas Prices!
Big oil and refineries export fuel and natural gas to other countries for additional profits. US natural resources that belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Barry will support natural gas and oil production to pay for his ‘spending gone wild’ addiction. Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

"unemployment continues to tick downward..." Excuse me? if it was more than just number play, how come a record 1.2 million people dropped out of the labor force last month? How come we have the lowest workforce participation rate in over 30 years? Corporate, mainstream media won't tell you about the real numbers but check out this link and tell me unemployment is really "ticking downward".

Wanna read real numbers about unemployment?

Now...if the establishment Republican Party cared any more about fixing these things instead of using them to gain power, how come none of them are making a big deal of this and how come they all want to move away from talking about jobs? The mainstream Repubs are just as bad as the Dems and both parties know that most people don't pay enough attention to know how badly they're getting shafted by BOTH parties.

Throroughbred - "His ban on drilling has been a great part of our huge increase in gas prices as well."

What "ban on drilling"? We're pumping more oil now than at any time during the Bush administration.

Being black has nothing to do with Obamas lack of leadership and poor understanding and misleading this great country. His ban on drilling has been a great part of our huge increase in gas prices as well.

As with all politicians; it's more important to lead and win and stuff their own pockets; as opposed to ruling with forethought and brilliant intellect and intuition.

BIG OIL & GAS love us

FROM THE ARTICLE:

Republicans are right that economic growth has remained stubbornly slow for the last three years. But, in politics, how the American people feel can be at least as important as economic facts and figures, and openly rooting against an economic recovery for political gain can be dangerous for any candidate.

One clear indicator of the improving mood is the stock market. The Dow Jones industrial average closed Friday at its highest point since early 2008, before the financial crisis. But as the stock market has climbed, so too have gas prices. They now stand at $3.44-per gallon, according to gasbuddy.com, which tracks prices nationally, up from only $3.12 a year ago.

Those are still off from all-time highs, despite what Gingrich said. That came in 2008, when prices peaked north of $4-per gallon and chants of “drill, baby, drill” reverberated from the Republican convention and across the campaign trail. If the economy continues to mend, Gingrich’s remarks on Sunday suggest Republicans could be readying a reprise.

The economy is starting to heat up and this is the sure fire way to stop it in it's tracks. It is common knowledge that the oil companies and speculators own the TEApublicans and if they loose the election it means big trouble in river city.

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them..

... if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Yep, unemployment numbers are phoney for two reasons:

1) they don't count those who have given up.

2) the Retail industry has not let go of the Christmas help yet in these figures

As for #1, the Wall Street Journal had an article recently regarding the unemplyment figures, and stated outright that if not for those that gave up looking, the numbers would have been the same as last month.

It's all smoke and mirrors.

government manipulation of employment figures by re-calculating what is a job. government gasoline taxes. stock markets on verge of another collapse. don't think there are enough fingers to count the problems with the economy and political freedom.

Good move. I thought the President was a good tactician until I realized he thinks high gas and oil prices are a good thing. They may well be the reason he will be retiring next year.

With gas prices expected to increase $0.60 by May; any recovery that might exist will be short lived. Obama should lose based on his own arguments against Bush. Obama has nearly doubled the debt in 3 years versus his dig at Bush for almost doubling the debt in 8 years. Gas prices have almost doubled since Obama took office.

If gas prices fell under his watch President Obama would surely take credit. Thus he should share the blame when they rise.
